What’s Your Tipping Point??

It’s a pretty common phenomena in ADHD households… disorganization and clutter. I’ve coached several adults on their issues of disorganization but  I came across this wonderful article I think you’ll enjoy.

~CoachRudy

What’s Your Tipping Point?

Did you ever notice that clutter seems to attract clutter? When you plop something “here for now” does that one item seem to multiply? Often a few out-of-place items seem to give us permission to continue adding to the jumble. We drop the bag of items from the store by the door because we don’t feel like putting them away right now. We set the mail on the counter “for now” because we don’t have time to deal with it. We dump the laundry from the dryer onto the couch because we don’t have time to fold it just yet. Pretty soon our home looks like a chaotic mess because our habits have allowed the clutter to creep up on us. Read More…

Can a Relationship Survive ADHD?

By Ronnie Koenig

When your partner has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, it can feel like he is not carrying his share of the load in the relationship and family life. ADHD sufferers often have trouble listening. They may interrupt their partners, forget to keep promises, behave impulsively, be subject to severe mood swings and lack the ability to create and maintain any type of real structure — all qualities that do not make for a happy home life.

ADHD is more than a minor annoyance. Its effects can break up marriages. In fact, divorce rates appear to be higher when one member of a couple has ADHD.

But with the help of medication, behavioral modification techniques or both, many ADHD sufferers can form happy and fulfilling bonds with their partners. If handled with care, those relationships can last a lifetime.

“For romantic relationships where ADHD is a factor, the biggest pitfalls are inattention and forgetfulness,” says Dr. Donald Haupt, co-author of the “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Adult ADHD.”

When one member of the couple doesn’t seem to be listening during a conversation or when she forgets important ...READ MORE…

Dealing with ADHD and Forgetfulness

Article by Eileen Baily, ADHD Central.com

What did you forget today? Over the years I have received emails from many adults with ADHD. One recurring theme in these emails is how difficult the symptom of forgetfulness is. Of all the different ADHD symptoms, this, according to one woman, is the worst. Her forgetfulness has labeled her “lazy,” “uncaring,” “unthoughtful,” and “stupid.” She tries to remember, she says, it just doesn’t work but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t care.

According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, 4th edition, “is often forgetful in daily activities” is listed as one of

the symptoms of inattention. Although this doesn’t mean that everyone with ADHD is forgetful, it is one of the more common symptoms. In the emails I have received, individuals with ADHD say forgetfulness interferes with their daily life. Some of the things people have forgotten:

  • “I forgot to pick up my kids after baseball practice.”
  • “I came home to no lights in the house because I forgot to pay the electric bill, even though I had the money to do so.”
  • “I forgot to get gas in my car and ran out of gas (again).”
  • “I forgot to meet my husband at the restaurant for dinner.”
  • “I forgot to set my alarm and was late for work (again).”
  • “I spent 3 hours at home doing a report for work and forgot to bring it with me.”

Testimonials: What others say . . .

“While working with Rudy, I’m amazed at how quickly I’ve seen very positive results with both m y business and my confidence level. Rudy has a way of masterfully weaving very simple concepts into our sessions which quickly become quite profound changes in the way I approach my business. I’m much better able to handle not only the daily business operations but I feel much more confident about reaching new clients in a new territory I’ve entered. After sixteen years in this industry, I thought I had forever lost the excitement I once felt about my business. After just a few sessions with Rudy, I’ve had more inquiry phone alls, more new client meetings and received ore business than I have in the past two years of struggling in this new market. I am **profoundly** grateful to Rudy for coaching me!!”

~Susan G., Easley, South Carolina

“Rudy’s coaching style allows me to find my own answers. He seems to put into words what I’ve known but didn’t want to admit. He’s endlessly supportive and nurturing, but firm in his approach. I always leave our sessions reinvigorated about my goals and seeing new possibilities for the future. And most of all, he reminds me that where I am, is perfect.”
