Taking Delight In Your ADHD

As adults with ADHD, when we have things go wrong in our life it’s so easy for us to see our own mistakes, our failures and our quirky ways. Some of us are fearful that others too will see our ADHD behavior (flaws) and attempt to hide them from others. Unfortunately, this style of thinking only focuses on the ‘not-so-good’ behaviors and outcomes. This thinking attacks our self esteem and it may drive us ‘under-the-radar’ in hopes that no one will notice.

In April, I posted an article entitled: “The ‘UP’ Side of ADHD”. http://www.adhdcenterforsuccess.com/the-%e2%80%9cup%e2%80%9d-side-of-adhd/ It’s TRUE! We all possess gifts inherent within our ADHD but for some ADHD’ers these gifts may be difficult to recognize.

Recently, I was coaching a woman (we’ll call her Dora) who was preparing to begin a new job in a few weeks. Dora called for coaching because she was concerned that her new co-workers would detect her less then perfect ADHD behaviors and she feared their judgment. When asked how she was perceived at her previous employment Dora replied that, “everybody loved me”. “Some said they enjoyed my energy and others said how much they would miss me being part of their work-team.”

Apparently Dora was ignoring the positive feedback from her prior job. Dora was viewing her upcoming job through a filter of fear, worry and stress. It was difficult for her to see any possible outcome in her new job other than negative judgment.

When I asked Dora what she enjoyed most about her ADHD she commented that she had not ever considered anything enjoyable about ADHD. After thinking a moment Dora suggested that I post an article on my blogsite inviting YOU the readers to share what you enjoy most about ‘YOUR’ ADHD.

**I invite you to share your COMMENTS below. Please share some things on your list that you enjoy about your ADHD. I’ll collect all comments received and share them in a subsequent post.
