Happy 2022! This is the time of year that people decide to create New Years Resolutions in an attempt to make a desired change in their life. I’ve been opposed to Resolutiiopns for a long while and this morning I received the following post from Peter Shankman. I recommend this approach to all my ADHD followers.
“Happy January 3rd, 2022…
We’ve all been there, me included. You know why? Because resolutions are the stupidest things in the world. They rarely succeed, because we’re a society that values “instant wins,” and you just don’t get them from resolutions.
Example: “I’m going to lose 40 pounds this year.” Well, that’s a noble cause, if it’s something you want to do. But after a month of starving yourself, you’ve only dropped maybe three pounds, your clothes don’t feel any looser. Nothing works, but pizza will always love you, right?
Instead – CREATE A RITUAL. “For the month of January, I’m going to walk three miles, five days a week, and skip dessert three times a week.” That’s something you can ACTIVELY SEE. You can watch it happen – It’s the end of week one, and you walked 15 miles and avoided the cake three times!
If you can track it, you can achieve it.

Welcome to 2022. There might not be a lot we can control this year, but we can control ourselves. Rituals work. The heck with resolutions.
